The St. Kitts Department of Sports congratulates Elijah Walters on earning a silver medal for St. Kitts and Nevis at the 2026 World Sailing Inclusive Championships in Portimão, Portugal.

The international championship was held from 1–10 October 2026, with Elijah representing the Federation in the ILCA 6 Intellectual Impairment Class. He completed 15 races over six days of competition and received his silver medal during the closing and awards ceremony on Saturday, 10 October.

Elijah’s performance represents a significant achievement for sailing in St. Kitts and Nevis. Throughout the championship, he demonstrated commitment and perseverance while embracing opportunities to learn and improve on the international stage.

Years of Development Rewarded

Elijah has sailed with the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center for approximately 15 years. His silver medal reflects his sustained dedication to the sport and highlights the importance of creating opportunities for sailors of all abilities to develop their skills and compete internationally.

Coach Nickhail Rogers praised Elijah’s ability to respond to coaching and quickly apply what he learned on the racecourse. According to his coach, Elijah improved considerably throughout the championship, supported by his personal drive and their work on important areas of strategic and tactical execution.

The competition also provided Elijah with valuable international exposure, access to coaching and an opportunity to build his sailing abilities in a supportive environment. During the 15 races, he actively sought feedback, identified areas for improvement and applied those lessons on the water.

A Community Achievement

Elijah’s participation was supported by several organisations and individuals. World Sailing provided assistance through its Emerging Nations Grant, while the Nevis Island Administration’s Department of Sports made a financial contribution towards the trip.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association also recognised the contributions of Coach Nickhail Rogers, Elijah’s parents and grandparents, the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center, members of affiliated sailing clubs and private supporters.

This collective support demonstrates the impact that families, sporting organisations, donors and community partners can have when they work together to create opportunities for athletes to develop and represent the Federation internationally.

The St. Kitts Department of Sports celebrates this outstanding accomplishment and looks forward to continued collaboration aimed at expanding opportunities for sailors and athletes of all abilities.

Elijah Walters and Coach Nickhail Rogers are expected to return to the Federation on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
