Tyrese Williams will represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the 2026 CARICOM Road Run and Walk, where he is set to compete in the Elite 10K event on Sunday, 5 July 2026, in St. Lucia.
The announcement was made during a brief handing-over ceremony, where Samal Duggins, Minister with responsibility for Sports, officially presented sponsorship assistance to Williams in support of his participation. Minister Duggins commended Williams for his dedication to athletics and recognised his role as an ambassador for the Federation.
“Tyrese continues to demonstrate the determination, discipline, and resilience that are characteristic of our nation’s athletes,” Minister Duggins said. “We are pleased to support his participation in this important regional event and have every confidence that he will represent St. Kitts and Nevis with pride, professionalism, and sportsmanship.”
Minister Duggins further noted that opportunities such as the CARICOM Road Run and Walk are important for athlete development and regional exposure, while reaffirming the Government’s commitment to supporting athletes who strive for excellence and serve as positive role models throughout the Federation.
Williams enters the regional competition in strong form, having recently captured first place in the Development Bank of St. Kitts-Nevis Mental Health Run and Walk. The event took participants along the scenic route from Frigate Bay to Majors Bay and featured a strong field of runners and walkers, with Williams producing an impressive performance to secure the top spot. for their investment in his athletic journey. He noted that the support will assist with his preparation and participation in the event.
“I am extremely grateful for this sponsorship and for the confidence that the Ministry has placed in me,” Williams said. “Representing St. Kitts and Nevis is always a tremendous honour and a responsibility that I take very seriously. The CARICOM Road Run and Walk will provide an opportunity for me to compete against some of the region’s top athletes, test myself at a higher level, and continue growing as a competitor.”
Williams also credited his recent victory in the Development Bank Mental Health Run and Walk as added motivation heading into the regional event, noting that he has been training diligently and is committed to delivering a performance that makes the Federation proud.
Also present at the handing-over ceremony was Valencia Syder, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, who joined Minister Duggins in extending best wishes to Williams as he prepares to compete in St. Lucia.
The Elite 10K is one of the featured events of the CARICOM Road Run and Walk, which brings together participants from across the Caribbean in a celebration of health, fitness, regional unity, and friendly competition.
