Minister of Education, Sport, Youth and Culture Hon. Jonel Powell has committed his Ministry’s support to the advancement of softball within schools in St. Kitts and Nevis. He shared the commitment during a brief ceremony on November 1, as the Hispanic community received a contribution of gears from MoneyGram, in support of its ongoing Softball League, at the New Town Paddock.

Sport Minister Powell gave assurances on three fronts- accelerated efforts to include softball as one of the sports being taught in schools, the continued support of the Department of Sport and the completion of legal work to upgrade the playing field next to the Tucker Clarke Primary School.

Powell also commended MoneyGram for their contribution to the Softball League and implored other members of the corporate community to step forward to partner with the various sporting disciplines played throughout the country.

Damion Hobson, Managing Director of Hobson Enterprises and MoneyGram, while handing over the EC$4000 worth of gears, signaled his company’s intent to expand its partnership with the Hispanic Softball Association in 2021.

The Hispanic Softball Association was formed in 2010 and features four teams- Los Fuertes, Los Chapia, Team Cuba and Los Menores. One of the main objectives of the association is to underscore the benefits of sport and exercise in the community.
